The workshop, entitled “Towards Advanced, Green Batteries: Realities and Expectations” will be held at the Gipuzkoa Science and Technology Park in Donostia-San Sebastian on 29 October 2015.
This workshop, free and open to the public, is celebrated as part of the closing activities for Europe’s GREENLION project, coordinated by CIDETEC. Funded by the EU’s Seventh Framework Programme for Research, this four-year project (2011-2015) mobilised 16 partners –nine of them industrial– from seven countries. The project aimed to develop a range of technologies to develop “greener” and higher-performing lithium-ion batteries. The project has addressed the various stages of the process, from manufacturing to design, taking into account life-cycle assessment and the final recycling phase. As a final milestone the project assembled a total of six battery modules according to automotive specifications, using cells manufactured from processes with low environmental impact, for example, water-based electrode processing. These demos are undergoing cycle and durability testing under strict automotive standards in the final stage of the project.
The main objective of the workshop is to bring together different companies within and outside the project consortium and establish a dialogue for exchanging perspectives on the future of batteries and electric mobility. The workshop will also include a presentation of the objectives and milestones reached by the GREENLION project and a keynote address on advanced battery technologies by Prof. Passerini, international expert in advanced battery technologies and one of the main project promoters.
Participants can also visit a small showroom that will exhibit some of the project’s milestones and demos.
