The platform will steer battery innovation in Europe
More than 130 organisations, including CIDETEC, have created the Batteries European Partnership Association (BEPA), which is aimed at promoting research to build a competitive battery value chain in Europe over the next decade.
Companies, research centres and associations of energy storage, public services and other industrial sectors have joined in this initiative that seeks to strengthen and steer public-private activities.
BEPA aims to be the central platform for research, development and innovation in Europe.
It will be responsible for defining and implementing the European Union's battery research and innovation agenda, where measures to promote public-private research are expected in the first part of 2021.
On 14 December, the platform's first General Assembly was held, at which the articles of association were approved and the composition of its governing bodies - the Executive Committee and the Steering Committee - was chosen by a vote among the members, including industrial representatives from the entire battery value chain.
Oscar Miguel, Director of CIDETEC Energy Storage, backed by extensive experience in different areas of the European Battery Ecosystem, was elected as one of the representatives of the technology research centres on the BEPA's executive board, being the only Spanish representative in the organisation. Alongside the rest of those selected, four representatives from CEA-Liten, Sintef, the University of Uppsala and Fraunhofer, Oscar Miguel will be one of the people in charge of defining the European battery innovation ecosystem for the coming years.
